Cleaning and Prevention
Good Oral Heath Practices

Practice good oral care every day Did you know that the condition of your teeth and gums provide important clues to your overall health? Current research shows that bacteria traveling from your mouth into your blood stream can contribute to hardening of the arteries, stroke, osteoporosis, diabetes, chronic fatigue and even preterm, low-weight babies. It can also increase your risk for contracting other disease, such as colds and the flu.

That is why proper cleaning and prevention is our main concern. Your hygienist will monitor the condition of your teeth and gums during your regular (6-month) visits but proper daily cleaning and prevention is up to you!

    Here’s what we suggest:
  • Take your time
  • Brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste – preferable before breakfast and after your last meal.
  • Brush the way your teeth grow (up and down) - avoid horizontal strokes.
  • Brush chewing surfaces vigorously.
  • Use a soft toothbrush.
  • Floss once a day. Brushing doesn’t remove all the plaque from between teeth.
  • When you rinse, rinse vigorously! It will help to remove any food particles left behind.
  • Replace your used toothbrush every three or four months (Children’s toothbrushes may need to be replaced more frequently).
  • Eat a well-balanced diet and limit sugary foods. Whenever possible, brush after eating sugary snacks.

Because we believe that practicing good oral care every day is the “ounce of prevention that is worth a pound of cure.” Let us show you how to properly care for your teeth and gums during your next visit. Your healthy body and beautiful smile will thank you!
